I am having a problem in the bedroom. Before you get the wrong idea keep on reading…

When I am cleaning up I tend to move everything that doesn’t have a permanent home to my bedroom. I pile “stuff” on my rocking chair, shove things in the closet or just start a new pile. I definitely don’t have a romantic bedroom and I want that to change. All that clutter is disrupting my sleep and gets in the way of a few other things, too.

I know your bedroom should be a sanctuary, the place where you can escape the rest of the house, hide from your kids, have fun with your significant other and get a good nights sleep. None of those things can happen in my cluttered and far from romantic bedroom. I am vowing here and now to be proactive and make a few simple changes to ensure I create a special and romantic bedroom.

5 Ways to Create a Romantic Bedroom

  • Clear the Space – This is my number one problem. I (we) have too much darn stuff! I am determined to declutter and downsize. Having the goal of a romantic bedroom is definitely a motivator. Being able to go to sleep and wake up without a room full of messy clutter will be invigorating. Add throw pillows and fuzzy blankets to enhance your space instead of cluttering it.
  • Adjust the Lighting – Those drab overhead lights aren’t doing anything for the ambiance of your bedroom. If you are serious about creating a romantic bedroom a few small adjustments in the room lighting can make a world of difference. Add dimmers so you can adjust the lighting at your leisure. A few bedside lamps with soft lighting will create a space you will be glad to escape to.

  • Invest in Luxurious Bedding – Don’t skimp on the sheets! Nothing makes your skin feel better than amazing bedding. Sheets that are soft, durable and smooth will promote better sleep and have you spending more time in bed. (Caution – it will be harder to get out of bed with those amazing sheets and comforters wrapped around your body.) Check out the selection of high-quality bedding they offer at www.Frette.com. They have styles and selections to compliment any taste or decor.

  • Ditch the Electronics – Nothing can ruin a romantic bedroom scene faster than a text message or phone call. Seriously! Start a new rule that electronics stay outside the bedroom door or if you need your phone for an alarm clock, give it a dedicated space where you won’t touch it until morning.

  • Set the Mood – A romantic bedroom wouldn’t be complete without candle light, flowers and music. A variety of candles in floral scents along with fresh flowers and soft music will ensure your romantic bedroom is a sanctuary of peace and relaxation. Lavender is one of my favorite scents and it’s known for its sleep inducing qualities.

I hate to admit it, but I’m breaking all these rules. Wel,l we do have nice bedding but that’s all. Our fancy throw pillows end up in the closet and the room isn’t organized. I’m going to put your ideas into use starting this weekend!
