Sharing is caring!

These cinnamon sticks and apple dipping sauce would make a great dessert recipe for a quick and easy snack.

Cinnamon Sticks with Apple Dipping Sauce

Ingredients

1 can Pillsbury crescent rolls
2 tsp Cinnamon
¼ C  Sugar ( White, Demerara, Brown, etc.)
1 Apple
1 Tbsp. Butter
½ C + 2 tsp Water
1 Tbsp. MELTED butter
2 tsp Cornstarch

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees
In a small bowl, combine the sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon
Open the can of crescent rolls and roll them out. Pinch the seams together to form a uniform rectangle shape.
With a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut strips (along the short way, not the long way).

Brush the strips with melted butter, and sprinkle with HALF of the sugar
Twist each stripe to form curves and place them on a parchment lined baking sheet
Sprinkle remaining sugar over the strips and place in the oven.
Bake for approximately 8 – 10 minutes or until the sticks become puffed up and golden brown.
Remove from oven and let cool before taking them off the pan.

For the Apple Dipping Sauce

Wash, peel and core the apple. Cut into small pieces. (The smaller, the better).
Place into a sauce pan and add the ½ C water, 1 tsp cinnamon and remaining sugar.
Bring to a boil, then turn down the heat to a simmer.

Simmer the apple mixture until it begins to break down and get soft. If you prefer a more chunky sauce (like pie filling) then don’t simmer it too long. If you want more of an applesauce, then simmer a lot longer. (In the softening/simmering process that too much water evaporates to have the mixture “saucy”, then add a bit more to achieve this consistency).
Make a slurry with the cornstarch and 2 tsp water, and add it to the saucepan. Stir until it thickens and remove from heat to cool.

You can serve it as a warm dipping sauce with the sticks, or wait for it to completely cool and serve it cold.

I can’t wait to eat these on a cool fall night! Would you eat the cinnamon sticks plain or with the apple dipping sauce?
