Do You Know Someone with Cancer

This post is brought to you by Walgreens and SheKnows Media. The opinions and text are all mine.  All opinions shared are my honest experiences.

Do you know someone with cancer? Yes. Yes, I do. As most of you may have read here before my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer in July of 2016. For several months, I traveled back and forth between her home and mine assisting in her care. She received treatment, had surgery and was cancer-free for six months.

Do you know someone with cancer?

Unfortunately, the ugly disease has invaded our lives again. My mom received a new cancer diagnosis in September and a yet another cancer diagnosis in October. A double whammy!

Now we battle!

Yes, we! Family means everything to me and I do everything I can to fight a good fight! I am preparing to take on the caregiver role and help my mom beat this cancer.  When someone close to me is hurting or ill, I will be there, no matter what. Finding the resources to win battles is my super power!

Are you a caregiver for someone with cancer?

As a caregiver you need to be prepared to take on many roles. Advocate. Decision Maker. Nurse. Scheduler. Transporter. Cook. House Cleaner. Medicine Tracker. Communicator. These are just a few of the services you may need to provide as a caregiver to a family member or friend battling cancer.

Sometimes it may seem overwhelming. Sometimes it may seem impossible. Sometimes you may want to quit. But you won’t quit! You cannot quit! Your role as a caregiver is invaluable to all of those you hold near and dear to you. You do it for them! You do it for you!

See that lady in the middle? That’s my mom. She is the someone with cancer that I know.

Fight as a team for someone with cancer!

No one can do this alone! As a caregiver you have to look for help and you have to accept help, too. You put together the best team and you win. Other family members can pitch in. Neighbors can make meals and drop-off groceries. Church members can cook and clean. A specially trained Walgreens’ cancer specialized pharmacist can provide you with support, information and holistic care ideas to support you and your loved ones along the way.

Walgreens cancer specialized pharmacists have additional training specific to cancer patients, their care and medications. Walgreens is committed to helping you manage medicinal side-effects. They can help complete insurance paperwork, try to help you find a better way to afford cancer medications, and look for ways to lower prescription co-pays. Sounds like the kind of players you want on your team.

We all probably know someone with cancer!

Accepting help from those close to you and the team of pharmacists at Walgreens can help reduce some of the stress and burdens you may face as a caregiver. Being a caregiver isn’t always easy, but it can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.

Remember, don’t do it alone. Seek out the support and resources available to you. We all want to see our loved-ones and friends beat this awful disease. Load up your team and win the battle.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me for support, emotional or otherwise. I’d love to talk to you about your loved ones and hear their stories. Together we make each other better.
