Family Camping Trips Pros and Cons

Camping can be a fun and exciting way to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy this big old world we live in! If you are like me, you have to approach most every subject from both sides: good and bad. Family camping trips pros and cons is no different than a typical pros and cons list! There are both good and bad parts of camping with the whole family, perhaps a family camping trip is the perfect idea, maybe it’s a nightmare waiting to happen. In this Family Camping Trips Pros and Cons list I will discuss both sides of the issue so you can decide for yourself if a family camping trip is the right way to go!

Sleep will make or break any trip, regardless of where you are going, what you are doing, or who is there, everyone will need sleep. If you have a lot of fussy sleepers in your family camping can be disastrous. The beds are not always super comfy, there’s not going to be tons of electronics to lull them to sleep, and sometimes the sounds of the outdoors are spooky. On the other hand sleeping in the great outdoors can be a really wonderful and calming experience! The sounds of nature instead of the beeping and whirring of electronics can be an awesome change of pace. Camping is also the greatest solution to naps! Napping in a hammock mid-day is about as peaceful as it comes.

Camping requires its own set of rules as far as cooking is concerned. You will need to use a fire, grills, or an electric griddle if you have the option of electric hookup. This can be very different from cooking at home and for some people it can be stressful, messy, and just plain annoying. When cooking for an entire family with one of these methods, especially if you have picky eaters, the process can be time consuming and frustrating. On the plus side you can really have fun experimenting with new recipes and techniques. Another plus is letting everyone cook their own items (think burgers, hot dogs, smores, etc.) over a fire

Camping is one of the best types of adventures when it comes to gadgets and gear. There are so many cool options and tools out there for use when camping. Camping supplies for an entire family can be pricey and it can add up over time which is the downside of the equipment necessary. With other types of trips and vacations you would probably require much less supplies; consider borrowing what you need if purchasing new products is not in your budget!

There are many different kinds of camping. Ranging in luxury from a two man tent to a ten person RV you can really find all manner and variety of luxury and comforts of home on the spectrum! If one type or the other is more affordable for your budget consider how that will affect the mood and overall demeanor of your family. If you have members of the family who simply can’t be without their devices, air conditioners, and blow dryers, you might end up dealing with more fights than you bargained for which can end up ruining your trip/time together. There are plenty of ways to make stepping away from the luxuries of home fun and exciting so on the plus side you can really find cool ways to bring the whole family together in that aspect.

Adventures / Activities
When camping with the whole family you will also have to consider how you will keep everyone entertained. The pros of camping with the whole family include getting to spend time together in a less distracting environment, teaching self-entertain principles, and enjoying nature. On the con side there are not always tons of super exciting things to do and if you have a family that needs to be on a level 10 all throughout their vacation this can be hard to keep up with when camping.

My husband and I camped every year with our kids when they were young. It was the only vacation we could afford as a family..We loved it..we went to the wisconsin dells area and camped where they had a pool…we spent one day in the Dells as it is pricey but fun….camping is great when your young..but we tried it as we got older and not so good…we made simple meals burgers, hot dogs..pancakes in the morning had plenty of sandwhich meat…and snacks, chips, donuts etc..we stayed up late by a fire…we made memories I will never forget..I am 62 now,2 of our children were killed on their way home from high school and last year my hubby died of cancer…never regret the camping or the memories..yes its not a luxury vacation, but we shared plenty of laughs and good times.
