Have you tried River Cruising in the US is a sponsored post written in partnership with American Cruise Lines. All opinions shared are my own.
Huge confession. My husband and I have been married for 31 years and have been wanting to take an ocean cruise for as long as we can both remember. BUT we’ve never made that commitment. The whole experience just seemed so daunting and too many what-ifs. Plus, my husband is adamant about not leaving the country, so our choices have been limited.
This past summer we took a short river cruise and it was a great start. Riverboat cruises aim to make your journey as smooth as possible, which is a big plus, especially to first-time cruise-goers. My husband is a huge history buff, so finding more places to try river cruising in the US is a new bucket list goal.

Trying River Cruising in the US
Our first river cruise was in honor of my birthday and we had a very enjoyable time. The captain and crew were so knowledgeable about the local area, as well as the history of the city and its surroundings. River Cruising in the US really opens your eyes to the sights you can enjoy close to home and allows you to set your own pace.
The ships used for river cruises are on a much smaller scale, which helped keep us more comfortable as we got acclimated to our time on the water. The land was never out of sight and we still had spectacular water views. Mingling and talking with the other passengers were also enjoyable. The smaller crowd size allowed us to get to know a few passengers and crew on a first name basis.
Now that we got our feet wet (not literally) with a day-long cruise, it’s time to try a multi-day and night river cruise. We just signed up for the Free 2020-2021 US Cruise Guide to start planning some upcoming empty nest adventures that we plan to embark on in 2020.
