Everyone is busy so finding viable ways to eat better is important. These healthy eating tips are a great place to start you down the path to eating better in 2018.

Healthy Eating Tips for Busy People

  • Plan Meals and Snacks

Yes, I know you’re busy and planning seems like a burden, but it makes a HUGE difference in your food eating habits. If you take a few minutes each week to plan ahead you can make better healthy eating choices. I usually plan on Sunday and head to the grocery store the same day or the next day if needed. Having a plan that guides what you will eat and when you will eat it stops the mindless eating. Writing it down and planning it out saves time, money and calorie intake!

  • Fill Half of Your Plate with Fruits and Vegetables

The best way to accomplish this is starting with a salad. Add a variety of Tanimura & Antle Artisan Lettuces to your plate. Top with your favorite fresh, frozen or canned vegetables. Drizzle on the dressing and eat up. Eating a variety of fruits and vegetables with each meal will help you feel full longer, while providing your body with fiber and essential vitamins and minerals.

  • Enjoy a Healthy Eating Meatless Monday

Skipping the meat one day a week is good for a healthy eating plan. Our bodies need protein, but we can enjoy them in other ways besides eating meat. Salads make Meatless Monday easy. Prepare a meal size salad with a variety of Tanimura & Antle Artisan Lettuces. Add nuts, grains or beans and you will have a delicious and nutritious salad that provides your body with the fuel it needs.

  • Eat your colors

Fruits and vegetables come in a variety of colors. The more colors you can eat in a day, the more nutritional benefits you will reap. I strive to add fruits and vegetables to every meal and also eat them for snacks throughout the day. Tanimura & Antle Artisan® Lettuces and Artisan Romaine, berries, citrus, and peppers are just a few of the great choices you can use to fuel your body with a variety of color and nutrition.

  • Don’t Drink Your Calories

Choose your drinks wisely. Most beverages are loaded with sugar and full of empty calories.  Many of the things we drink lack the vitamins and minerals our bodies need to fuel them for the day. Water is a great choice. Water has zero calories and keeps you full and hydrated while providing you with the essentials your body needs to function properly.

Add lemon or no-calorie sweetener to change up the taste of just plain water. Milk is also another beverage that is good for your body. Milk gives you calcium and vitamins to support healthy bones and teeth.

  • Do Your Research

Since we are all busy, we know that fast food stops or takeout are inevitable. There’s nothing wrong with eating out or visiting a fast food restaurant. The important part is having a plan that will help keep your healthy eating in check. Take some time to visit the website of your favorite restaurants. Look at the menu selections and the nutritional information. Knowing ahead of time the foods that you can order as part of a healthy eating plan will ensure you make good choices on-the-go.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. The only way I can keep my eating habits healthy is to meal plan. Otherwise, between my nutritional needs and my family’s, it’s chaos.

The biggest tip I could give ANYONE who is busy is… Stop at a grocery store and chow down on their salad bar! It’s like a fast food joint, but typically 10x healthier (depending on whether or not you make good choices)!!! I adore Whole Foods Salad Bar!

My mom used to always say “Eat your colors” and pile your plate up with lots of greens, yellows and reds. Didn’t understand it much as a kid but now, I totally get it.

I totally agree with the meal planning aspect. The more healthy foods you have in your house, the less likely you are to grab fast food or vending machine junk. It also ensures you never have to grab an unhealthy meal at the last minute when you’re starving.

I think one of the most helpful tips that has worked for me, that you have also covered here is doing research. I really couldn’t believe the smarter options at fast food restaurants, I was trying to change my orders in case I found myself at one and it was amazing which foods were actually the healthier ones. I changed my standard order now and am prepared no matter where I eat at!

These are great tips! It can be a challenge to eat healthy on the go sometimes. I usually take a snack with me to avoid fast food. I guess I didn’t realize there were better options available there.
