How I Met My Husband

It has been over 32 years since I met my husband! I am still in awe of the amazing husband, father and partner he is every single day. 32 years ago, I was a 16 year old high school junior with a crush on this guy that I now call my own. 32 years of love and almost 29 years of marriage under our belt and still going strong.

LITTLE TREES is a part of our true love story, so of course I was more than excited to partner with them to bring you this sponsored post on how I met my husband. Every time I see a LITTLE TREES hanging in a car, I giggle a bit inside. It automatically brings back the memories of how I met my husband 32 years ago.

How I Met My Husband

How I Met My Husband

1985 still comes back to me like it was yesterday. Sometimes I forget what day of the week it is, but the day I met my husband is something I won’t be forgetting anytime soon.

It was a snowy January night. I will admit I don’t remember the exact day, but it was January of 1985. One of my dear friends from school had introduced me to her sister, who at the time was my husband’s sister-in-law. She also intorduced also met her boyfriend whom just happened to be very good friends with my husband. Sounds complicated, but it really wasn’t.

A group of us spent the evening talking, having snowball fights and just hanging out in the small town square. As the night went on, I could tell my husband was paying more attention to me, than the others in the group. Several snowballs were aimed in my direction a bit too frequently. As the night progressed my husband and I chatted about people we knew in common and random facts. It was then I found out he was five years older than me. Yikes! Old enough to vote, old enough to drink, had a full-time job and his own car. What more could a girl ask for, right?

How I Met My Husband

None of those things scared me away. Being the oldest child in my family, I was mature and the age difference meant nothing to me. Maybe to my parents, but not to me! It kept getting later and later and my friend was in no hurry to leave. I needed to get home, curfews were still part of my high school life. My husband, Dan offered to give me a ride home and of course I accepted.

Looking back on it now, that may not have been the best decision of my life. Strange guy, strange car, maybe I wasn’t as mature as I thought I was. Regardless, I hopped right in, scooted across the bench seat to the middle and sat leg to leg with a guy I had only know for two hours.

The ride home in his 1973 Dodge Aspen Station Wagon was definitely a memorable one. The roads were snow covered and maybe he was showing off a bit with the slipping and sliding. The heater was on full blast, the radio was playing Huey Lewis, the car was loud and a LITTLE TREES pine air freshener dangled from the rear view mirror. It’s funny how the smell of the LITTLE TREES air freshener always makes me think of that first car ride many years ago.

It was a short 10 minute ride to my house. We talked, we laughed and we sang along to the radio. When we got to my house, I started to say goodbye and ended up with a kiss, I didn’t expect. That was it. I was smitten. We are living proof that love at first sight is real and can last a lifetime!

How I Met My Husband

All of the small details of that first night I met my husband are still fresh in my mind. It’s funny how sights, sounds and smells can evoke memories from your past in an instant. To this day my husband still has a LITTLE TREES air freshener in every vehicle we own. Each of us has our own scent preferences and thanks to LITTLE TREES I was able to test out a few new scents this month.

LITTLE TREES offers innovative automotive air fresheners that are long-lasting high-quality fragrances that are available in a variety of forms to fit your lifestyle.

Be sure to follow the directions on the back of each package. You only let the LITTLE TREES out a little bit at a time, so the scent can last up to 7 weeks. Also make sure they don’t touch any surfaces, they need to hang freely. In the car I use a sticky damage-free hook and it works out just fine.

By far, Twisted Basil has become my new favorite scent. It’s so fresh and makes me think of warm summer days. When I open the car door and get my first whiff, it’s a memory flood all over again. Over the years LITTLE TREES has always had a way of reminding me of all the good times.

How I Met My Husband

The Creamy Avocado LITTLE TREES hangs in my linen closet and the Heirloom Tomato LITTLE TREES  hangs out in the trunk of my car.  Because both have just the right amount of fresh herb scent to keep the area smelling great without a heavy perfume odor. All of these scents are perfect to use at home or on the road.

How I Met My Husband

Did you know that LITTLE TREES is the original automotive air freshener and are now available in over 40 fragrances? They also come in X-tra strength which is perfect for a teenage boys car. Trust me, I know!

Memories are a great thing! I am hoping my husband and I have many more years of memory making left to come.

Do you have any LITTLE TREES memories to share? I’d love to hear them in the comments or on social media.

My all time go-to little trees scent is Vanilla, but the Cinna-berry is the one that evoke the most emotional response from me. I was a young teenager on my first real date in a car with a boy driving. The smell was so wonderful and so was he, opening the door, letting me pick the music and joking about how I had never smelled the smell pf Cinna-berry before that day. It wasn’t much longer that I lost this dear friend tragically in a vehicle collision, so the smell always has a bittersweet memory for me. Very pleasant and positive, but with a full dose of sadness at the life he wasn’t able to live out.

I would love to smell the Strength aroma. My favorite memories are working at Car Freshener were we made these little trees. I went home every night smelling like all of these different aromas. We had some good times working there. Plus we all got plenty of free car fresheners.

I live in a small community in Northern New Hampshire. I grew up with a little tree factory up the road from myself. My dad worked there for a few years. It shut down several years ago which was devastating to everyone, but the memories of it are still here. I won’t forget driving by the giant little tree almost every day!

When my son got his first car he went crazy with the black ice Little Trees. He used so many you could almost smell that car coming from a block away. I always think of that when I see them.

Oh I remember growing up, we had spent the weekend at my grandmas cabin like always. Our dog and run into a skunk that weekend…and smelled horrible. Grandma had given him a bath in tomato juice with helped….but on the ride home was so smelly! I remember we stopped to get gas…and dad came out with about 10 of the tree air freshners for our ride home! Oh we laughed so hard…and still laugh about it today!

I didn’t know there was this many scents for the Little Trees. My husband always has either a vanilla or a cinnamon scent. I like the pina colada scent or anything fruity.

The first scent I ever remember in the Little Trees was pine. Now I see it’s called Royal Pine. My Grandmother always had this air freshener hanging from her rear view mirror to keep her car smelling fresh. Whenever I see one, I am reminded of the fun times I had with my Grandmother riding around in the car with her.
