Lending a Hand to the Expecting and Birth Parent Support Fund

Someone recently told me that August 29th was National Lend a Hand Day. I wonder who comes up with these “national days?” Anyhow, no matter what day it is, lending a hand to those in need is always a great idea!

Most of my full-time jobs have been related to some kind of social work. Helping others move forward and reach their goals has always been an important part of what I do. Earlier this month when I got an email update from Adoptions from the Heart about their upcoming fundraiser to support birth parents that put their children up for adoption, it definitely touched my heart. Adoption is a big part of my extended families story and several of my close friends have family stories that include adoption.

Support the Expecting and Birth Parent Support Fund

You don’t often hear of fundraisers that support birth parents. Deciding on adoption isn’t easy and having a support system is so important. The Expecting and Birth Parent Support Fund does just that. This particular fund is solely supported by donations and was created specifically to provide assistance throughout the year to birth parents facing financial burdens after placing a child for adoption. Within the last two years, Adoptions From The Heart has been able to help a total of 69 birth parents with payments related to housing, food, utilities and transportation through the Expecting and Birth Parent Support Fund. That extra way of lending a hand has made a difference in the life of many.

Adoptions from the Heart just hosted their 2nd Annual Find Her Footing Zumbathon®. A large group of men and women got together on a Sunday afternoon to sweat and move to support the fund. Being able to attend the fundraiser was a win-win for me. I was able to donate and support a fund I believe strongly in and was able to try my hand at Zumba! Moving more is an important part of any healthy lifestyle journey. Whenever you get the chance to move that body, just do it!

The Adoptions from the Heart fundraiser was fun! You had a chance to meet Miss Pennsylvania, nourish your body with healthy snacks and take a chance at fun raffle baskets. The event was family friendly and open to all ages.
