Biblical New Year’s Resolutions | Questions to Ask
Another new year. So, does that mean another New Year’s resolution? As I look back over 2018, I think about the good times, the times spent with family and friends when we just laughed and enjoyed each other’s company. I also think about those that I have lost and the heartache that is still so very real. I look back on the hard times and wonder how I made it through. The times that challenged me in my walk with the Lord. Did I and do I really trust? How strong was or is my faith?
New Year’s Resolutions are kind of like a to-do list.
- lose weight
- get my finances in order
- pay down those credit card bills
- work less
- play more.
What does the Bible say about New Year’s Resolutions?
And of course, this list goes on. This year I had to ask myself what does God want me to do? What does the Bible say about a New Year’s Resolution? This was actually a very easy answer and it had absolutely nothing to do with it being a new year. We are to examine ourselves daily. “Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.” Lamentations 3:40
Where do I stand in my walk with the Lord?
So, what does this mean to me? Where do I stand in my walk with the Lord? Am I living a life that pleases Him? If it is January 1 st or July 1 st, does the date have anything to do with it? When is the last time that I really examined myself to see if I was living a life that is pleasing to Him? Ouch and Amen because “Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning” Lamentations 3:23
I did make a New Year’s Resolution, and it will be my last. I will begin each day in prayer and ask the Lord to go before me and help me to live that day, the way that He wants. I will choose joy because that is a gift from Him.
