Are You Making Biblical New Year’s Resolutions?

Biblical New Year’s Resolutions | Questions to Ask

Another new year. So, does that mean another New Year’s resolution? As I look back over 2018, I think about the good times, the times spent with family and friends when we just laughed and enjoyed each other’s company. I also think about those that I have lost and the heartache that is still so very real. I look back on the hard times and wonder how I made it through. The times that challenged me in my walk with the Lord. Did I and do I really trust? How strong was or is my faith?

New Year’s Resolutions are kind of like a to-do list.

  1. lose weight
  2. get my finances in order
  3. pay down those credit card bills
  4. work less
  5. play more.

What does the Bible say about New Year’s Resolutions?

And of course, this list goes on. This year I had to ask myself what does God want me to do? What does the Bible say about a New Year’s Resolution? This was actually a very easy answer and it had absolutely nothing to do with it being a new year. We are to examine ourselves daily. “Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.” Lamentations 3:40

Where do I stand in my walk with the Lord?

So, what does this mean to me? Where do I stand in my walk with the Lord? Am I living a life that pleases Him? If it is January 1 st or July 1 st, does the date have anything to do with it? When is the last time that I really examined myself to see if I was living a life that is pleasing to Him? Ouch and Amen because “Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning” Lamentations 3:23

I did make a New Year’s Resolution, and it will be my last. I will begin each day in prayer and ask the Lord to go before me and help me to live that day, the way that He wants. I will choose joy because that is a gift from Him.

My name is Millie Wert. I’m a happily married woman to my best friend. I can’t praise the Lord enough, not just for saving me, but for my husband. Is he perfect? Absolutely not, but he is perfect for me. He lets me be my silly self and he loves me unconditionally. We have one child, a son. He is married and we are more than blessed to have a beautiful 3 ½ yr old granddaughter. She says that “Pappy” is her best friend. I am thrilled, but also think to myself, what am I, fog? I’ve been in the ministry for almost 20 years, serving the Lord as an office manager in a Christian camp and retreat center. It is extremely difficult and beyond challenging at times, however seeing how the Lord works in the lives of so many has been the hugest blessing for me and if my pushing paper around has had any influence in that, then praise Him! I love to read! I also love to craft. I’ve been a crafter for as long as I can remember. About 10 years ago, my son suggested that I start selling my crafts. I thought to myself, who would want my junk. But, I was also at a point where I stopped crafting and really missed it. Let’s face it, your friends and family only want your homemade junk for so long. After taking some time to pray, I felt prompted. As a result, I’ve been able to continue crafting and now I earn a little bit for doing it. You can find me at many craft shows under the name of “Millie’s 2nd hand Salvage”. That name because everything that I make comes from recycled stuff. I admit it…..I’m a dumpster diver. I hate to see stuff be thrown out that can be transformed into something useful
