Ingredients for this recipe

Mayonnaise: For creamy texture.
Sour cream: or Greek yogurt.
Dry vegetable soup mix: For seasoning.
Chopped spinach: Frozen, thawed and drained.
Water chestnuts: Drained and chopped
Bread: A full loaf.
Veggies or other dippable foods: Carrot sticks, celery sticks, pepper slices or other vegetables, crackers, pita chips or bread cubes would be great!

How to make this Knorr spinach dip recipe

Step 1: Drain and coarsely chop the water chestnuts. Set aside.
Step 2: Squeeze the thawed frozen spinach to remove excess water. Set aside.
Step 3: In a large bowl combine the mayonnaise, sour cream (or Greek yogurt). Add the dry soup mix. 
Step 4: Stir in the water chestnut and the spinach.
Step 5: Place in the refrigerator. Let it chill for 4 hours.
Step 6: Prepare the bread bowl. Using a sharp knife cut the top of the bread off being careful to not cut through the sides or bottom of the bread. Remove the top and set aside. Pull out some of the bread from the inside of the loaf to create a bowl. Leave at least a ½ inch layer of bread inside the bowl (sides and bottom). 
Step 7: Spoon the chilled dip into the bread bowl.
Step 8: Serve with your choice of dippers.

Storage suggestions

You can store this spinach dip for 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator.

How long can spinach dip sit out at room temperature?

When serving spinach dip, it should sit out at room temperature for no more than two hours. You can extend the serving time by placing the serving platter/plate on a tray of ice. 

Can you make spinach dip ahead of time?

Yes, spinach dip can be made 1 to 3 days ahead of time. Make the dip but do not place it in the bread bowl until you are ready to serve.

Can you freeze spinach dip?

No, you should not freeze spinach dip. Both mayonnaise, sour cream and Greek yogurt (if you use it in place of sour cream) will all separate when thawing. This will make the dip watery.

Can you use fresh spinach in place of frozen in the dip?

You can use fresh spinach, but it will need to be prepped before adding to the dip. You will need to use a larger amount of fresh spinach to replace the frozen spinach. Place 1-2 teaspoons of oil in a skillet and add 16 ounces of fresh spinach. Cook the spinach for 3 to 5 minutes over a medium heat until it is cooked down. Allow the spinach to cool and then squeeze out the remaining water. Add the cooled spinach to the dip.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Mayonnaise
  • 16 oz Sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • 1.4 oz Dry vegetable soup mix
  • 10 oz Frozen chopped spinach thawed and drained
  • 5 oz Water chestnuts drained and chopped
  • 1 lb Loaf of bread
  • Dippers: carrot sticks, celery sticks, pepper slices or other vegetables, crackers, pita chips or bread cubes

Instructions

    I used to bring this bread bowl dip to a good many functions years ago, especially Christmas, showers, etc. It was great and enjoyed by all and there was never any leftovers. After you hollow out the bread, cut it into cubes and use that for dipping as well as it is delicious. Hope everyone enjoys.

  10. I love a bread bowl. People are always impressed, but it really is so easy. Smart to mix in the yogurt, I’m trying to do that more often since it adds protein.
