It’s always a guessing game to see how the Weight Watchers program is going to change when they update and make changes. For the Weight Watchers SmartPoints FreeStyle Update there are some great new changes that will make tracking your foods even easier.
I’ll show you a bit about the new changes below and show you how I’m making these FreeStyle updates work for me on my journey to a healthier life.
Weight Watchers SmartPoints | FreeStyle Update
The most important thing about the Weight Watchers SmartPoints FreeStyle update to remember is that it’s still the SmartPoints system. The overall system, style, and format are the same! That being said, let’s dive into the changes.

Weekly Points | Daily Points
The weekly points and daily points on the Weight Watchers SmartPoints program with FreeStyle update are lower. Before you freak out about that lower number (honestly, I freaked out a little bit) check out the next bullet here…Zero Points Foods.
Those lower numbers are a great motivator to choose more healthy options that are on the zero points list. There’s also a new rollover feature that allows you to save up some points and splurge if you like!
Keep scrolling for more info on how the lower weekly and daily points of the FreeStyle update don’t have to mean hunger or failure on the SmartPoints program!
Zero Points Foods Freestyle Update
There are now more Weight Watchers SmartPoints zero points foods. Some of the main differences are chicken, corn, beans, peas, fish, canned tuna in water, eggs, tofu, turkey breast, and nonfat yogurt!
Now that there are so many great zero points foods additions to the FreeStyle update you can eat less points in a day by filling up with these great zero points foods. This is another effort to make sure people are pushed towards healthy choices.
This really helps me because I was worried about my lower daily points number. A lot of these new options are filling, delicious, and of course: they’re healthy. Now that I have all these great zero points options I don’t have to worry about being hungry.
Rollover Points Freesytle Update
This was a previous plan feature and they’ve brought it back for the Weight Watchers SmartPoints FreeStyle update. Now you are able to rollover up to 4 SmartPoints per day.
This means that if you don’t use all of your points you won’t be “dinged” for not eating in your range, you’ll get to roll those points over. This might be especially helpful for those of you who utilize a cheat day.
In my day to day routine I don’t typically need the rollover points nor do I save up my SmarPoints or FreeStyle points for a cheat day. I’ve found that a cheat day kind of pushes me out of my healthy choices routine and that doesn’t work for me. If it works for you, that’s great, utilize this new feature.
How I’m Making the Freestyle Update Work
I’m a big fan of the Weight Watchers program. The SmartPoints system works. Be on the look out for updates on our previous recipes. You will soon see the recipes you know and love are still a great option with the FreeStyle update.
With a lower daily points allowance I’m working hard to make smart choices. Weekly points is something I haven’t had to use on the Beyond the Scale program but with the Freestyle Update in place I’ll probably need to do that. I have found that the additional zero points foods have really impacted my ability to eat more without going over my lower points allowance.
