Do I need to cook the beans before adding them to the soup?

No, you don’t need to cook the beans before adding them to the soup. Just drain and rinse them, and then add them to the pot. Canned beans are actually already cooked for the most part so they’ll just need to be warmed up and that happens in plenty of time when mixed in with the ground turkey soup ingredients.

What kind of ground turkey should I use?

You can use either ground turkey breast or ground turkey thighs. Ground turkey breast is leaner, while ground turkey thigh is richer and more flavorful. We prefer ground turkey breasts for most of our recipes because it’s so lean and healthy.

Ground turkey breasts are great for anyone who is using the WW program as well because it’s very low in points and will help keep you on track with your program.

Ground turkey also cooks faster than a lot of other protein options which makes it a great option for busy weeknight meals.

Can I substitute another type of meat for the ground turkey?

Yes, you can substitute ground beef, chicken, or pork for the ground turkey. Just be sure to adjust the cooking time accordingly. Ground beef will take longer to cook than ground chicken or pork.

I love using ground chicken in place of ground turkey because in terms of taste and texture as well as points for WW and calories/fat it’s pretty similar. Ground beef or pork will add to those things for sure so keep that in mind if it’s an importnat aspect of the recipe building process for you!
