It’s finally strawberry season! It’s hard to say which is my FAVORITE but Homemade Strawberry Shortcake is pretty high up there on my list of favorite fresh strawberry recipes. Making this homemade strawberry shortcake recipe is a lot easier than you might think and luckily if you don’t have time to whip up a batch of these homemade biscuits you can just grab a tube at the grocery store and still have a delicious dessert! Strawberries are so delicious on their own but paired with some creamy vanilla ice cream and a warm homemade biscuit?! How can you go wrong with that combo!

Ingredients Needed for Homemade Strawberry Shortcake:

  • 2 cups all­ purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1⁄2 cup butter, cold, cut into small chunks
  • 3⁄4 cup buttermilk

Instructions for Making Homemade Strawberry Shortcake:

  • Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl
  • Cut in the butter into small chunks
  • Add the cold buttermilk and form into a ball.
  • Roll dough onto a lightly floured surface
  • Using a 21⁄4 or 21⁄2­inch biscuit cutter cut biscuits and place them on a lined baking sheet.
  • Bake at 450 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown on top
  • 3 cups strawberries, diced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • Combine strawberries, sugar, lemon juice and vanilla in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • Lower heat to a simmer until the strawberries are soft and the syrup is thickened about 15 minutes, stirring often

Homemade Strawberry Shortcake Strawberry Sauce:

  • 3 cups strawberries, diced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • Combine strawberries, sugar, lemon juice and vanilla in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • Lower heat to a simmer until the strawberries are soft and the syrup is thickened about 15 minutes, stirring often

Serving Homemade Strawberry Shortcake:

  • Cut the biscuits in half
  • Add 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream
  • Add 1 scoop of fresh cut berries
  • Top with the other 1/2 of the biscuit
  • Drizzle strawberry sauce on top
  • Top with a whip cream dollop
