  1. Mrs. Trach says:

Just wondering why the 24 hours wait? My mother in law always said that too, and I never asked her WHY !?!?

    1. It takes some time for the crackers to soak up the oil. I’ve found that they just don’t taste as good until the seasonings have had time to soak in and otherwise they feel/taste a bit greasy.

  2. Ruby Crouse says:

I’ve never tried these without baking them. I think toasting them in the over gives them a great toasted flavor. It doesn’t take that long. 1 hour. Stirring every 15 min. I’ve forgotten the temp. Think it’s about 250

  3. Do you need to set them out on a cookie sheet to set or just put them in an air tight container?

    1. I don’t ever put mine on a cookie sheet. I keep them in the container I mix them in. Thanks

  4. Kas Wickwire says:

What size is the ranch dip packet in ounces?

  5. Um, please tell me that there are not actually over 1400 calories in a serving of these! And what is a serving size?

    Thanks!

  6. Susan Medsker-Nedderman says:

I have been making these for years. If you shake them in a paper bag instead of a bowl, the bag will absorb a lot of the oil, so the crackers won’t be so oily.

      1. omg i remember doing them in the paper bag !!!

        1. Amanda Anderson says:

I use a paper bag as well.

  7. I accidentally bought Dry Ranch dressing mix packet instead of dip mix. Do you think that’s ok to use?

    1. I would try it. I think it’s basically the same, The package is probablay larger though? Good luck, ,Let me kojw how you make out. Thanks!

    2. Virginia T Buck says:

My original recipe I got years ago, actually calls for the dressing packet not the dip. You will be fine.

    3. Tony Walde says:

Reminds me of the fire cracker recipe which has the addition of red pepper flakes. We’re going to try this ea. way ’cause we do love the extra heat from the pepper flakes. We also us Canola Oil for no other reason then it’s lower in saturated fat. 16 grams vs 21. Canola actually has 300 more calories in a cup of oil but we don’t drink the stuff so how many calories you get using it like this is anyone’s guess The health studies say given a choice the Canola is the way to go by a slight margin. Sorry to take up your blog.

  8. Carey Chellew says:

I’m wondering if the flavor will still be as good without the dill. Has anyone tried? These sound delicious but I’m not a fan if dill. I think I’ll go ahead and try anyways. Thank you!

    1. Skipping the dill will not hurt the recipe. It will still have plenty of flavor ! I love dill so I always add it but feel free to adjust it to your taste. Happy new year thanks for stopping by. Michele

    2. Virginia T Buck says:

My original recipe calls for adding lemon pepper in addition to the dill and garlic. Since tshis was the only thing I used lemon pepper for I decided to eliminate it. It’s a very forgiving recipe. Add what ever spices your family likes. Yesterday I added italian seasoning spice. It still works.

    3. Frances Day says:

i have been making these for years but somehow never added the dill or garlic. Very good and I now have Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren that count on getting these every year.

    4. Craig Darlene says:

@Carey Chellew, I’ve made these for years. I’ve never used dill. Gonna try it now though. Also, I use a gallon storage bag. Very easy to mix when needed.

  9. Joyce Jackson says:

I have been making these for years.A friend gave the recipe to my husband. In his recipe, he warmed the oil.Love these.

    1. That is a great idea! I’ll try heating the oil next time. I bet that gives it more flavor. Thanks!

  10. I’ve made this before using Orville Redenbachers buttery popcorn oil, really good! Also good using pretzel stix or braids!

  11. Rachel nel says:

I be in South Africa and saw the oyster cracker recipe I love oysters but never heard of crackers could you tell me what it is please

  12. I make thesense all the time. However I like to add broken cashews as a little twist. EXCELLENT

  13. Alice Pryor says:

Instead of regular ranch, I used fiesta ranch. It makes them spicy and I always use olive oil.

  14. can the vegetable oil be substituted for olive oil or butter?

    1. I think olive oil should work. With butter I think they will get extra greasy. The crackers absorb the oil, not sure the butter would work the same. Let me know what you try. Thank you for stopping by! Michele
